· Return to News

Film studies students have recently had the chance to visit a Short Film Festival in York to experience a showcase of talent.

The students visited the Aesthetica Short Film Festival, a BAFTA qualifying festival that is highly regarded among those in the film world. It was an important channel for students to experience moving image and digital culture and provides opportunity for talent development and stimulating film viewing.

Film students also had the chance to listen to a speaker from Framestore, an Oscar winning creative studio on visual effects in cinema.

The festival has given students the chance to examine professional short films and the opportunity to speak to filmmakers, and lovers of film to connect. As part of their studies, the students are required to create or write a short film therefore this experience has been invaluable.

Carl Percival, Hartlepool Sixth Form College Lecturer in Media and Film said:

“This experience is essential in showcasing the talent of global professional filmmakers and it has huge potential to stimulate creativity amongst the students.”
