Director of English and Mathematics

Full Time, Permanent

We are seeking an inspirational, experienced leader who is passionate about putting excellence at the heart of everything they do and is ambitious to make a difference to the English and maths curriculum across Sunderland College. Reporting to the Vice Principal, Curriculum and Achievement, you will be part of the College Leadership Group.

You will be responsible for developing and leading on the English and maths curriculum across the College. You will through motivational and outstanding approaches to the development of teaching, learning and assessments, create innovative learning opportunities for all our students.

You will lead the strategic and substantial operational delivery of the English and maths curriculum, driving forward the strategic approach to improving English and maths student progress measures and skills. You will need to demonstrate the leadership resilience to motivate a large curriculum team and commitment to collaborative working.

You will need to be able to demonstrate impactful and outstanding leadership of cross organisational English and maths provision and have experience of positively influencing the English and maths skills of students and the community.

You will contribute to the development and success of the College’s vision, strategy and values and lead on English and maths pathways to meet the current and future demands of the labour market and employers. You must be adept at developing and maintaining excellent working relationships at all levels and across teams, built on professional values and practitioner based credibility and expertise.

Candidates must have a degree and an appropriate higher qualification in English and/or mathematics. You must have fully qualified lecturing or teaching status. A leadership qualification would be desirable.

Lecturer 2 (Carpentry & Joinery)

Full time

Our £30m City Campus opened in September 2016; providing a fantastic industry standard realistic working environment.

We are looking to appoint an enthusiastic individual who can demonstrate outstanding teaching, learning and assessment practices across all levels to ensure positive outcomes for students. There is significant potential of further development and promotion of provision across this curriculum area of Carpentry & Joinery and it is expected that you will be part of the team to drive this forward.

It is essential that applicants be qualified to NVQ Level 3 in Carpentry & Joinery, possess a teaching qualification (or willing to work towards), an assessor qualification and have extensive industrial experience within the sector.

An additional construction craft qualification to NVQ Level 2 or 3 would also be desirable.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate, in their personal statement, practical examples of how they fulfil the person specification.
