HSFC Basketball Academy Shoot to Success

· Return to News

Hartlepool 6th Form College launched their Basketball Academy in September 2016 and it has become an immediate success. Hartlepool 6th Form College recruited a very good class of players and continued their link with local Junior National League team, Durham Wildcats. This has led to the team topping the AOC Division 1 North East league, unbeaten and putting in some excellent performances. Some dominating performances include beating Middlesbrough College 79 – 29 and East Durham College 94 – 33. The newly formed team even made it through to the Final 8 of the AOC National Cup only to be beaten in over-time by 2 points by Sheffield College, the previous year’s finalists. Another success was the National Schools competition, making it through the regional pools and into the national pools.

The College is looking to recruit players of all levels, both male and female, as they look to enter the ABL (Academy Basketball League) as they apply for promotion from AOC Division 1 North East and offer the U19 basketball players from around the Tees Valley and Country Durham area a chance to compete at a much higher level.

The student athletes take advantage of both outstanding academic provisions and elite training with Head Coach Ian Hewitt (Newcastle University & England U15 Coach). Basketball players in the College receive individual sessions, individual strength and conditioning programmes and also receive daily training sessions and compete in multiple competitions through the year.
