BTEC Graphic Design
Graphic Design is an exciting and diverse course which builds practical skills to prepare you for a career in the Creative industry. Whilst studying the course you will be introduced to a range of resources and techniques, both hands on as well as digital.
You will be assigned a number of briefs and work with real life clients to gain an authentic feel of working within a design studio. Past briefs have included design for the Music Industry, working to promote a clothing range and publicising local and national events.
If you are a creative thinker, enjoy using a range of artistic materials and work well to a brief, Graphic Design would be an ideal course for you. Over the first term you will be introduced to elements of illustration, Photography, collage, typography, print making, PhotoShop and image manipulation. You will then be expected to apply these techniques to suit your client’s requirements when working towards brief deadlines.
Graphic Design allows you to gain first-hand experience of working within a creative environment and develop your overall artistic skills. Usually, students choose to study an additional Art based A Level alongside the course such as Art, Photography or Textiles. Alternatively, students may choose to study a Business course alongside to further their understanding of Art within a business environment.
As the course is structured to reflect the Design Industry, there is no written exam to the course, instead you will be assessed solely on your practical skills and ability to present your ideas.
As well as freelance design work, students have gone onto to study and work in fields such as:
- Fashion Marketing and brand design.
- Journalism and print design.
- Commercial illustration (traditional and digital).
- Product and packaging design.
- Promotion and Marketing.
- Lens based image making such as Film
- Website Design.
